Wabash 85, Denison 73

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Andrew Zimmer scored 18 points off the bench for Wabash as the Little Giants outscored Denison 44-29 in the second half to pull out the 85-73 victory over host Denison on Saturday night at Livingston Gymnasium.

Despite the loss the Big Red seemed to have snapped out of their funk which had plagued them through much of the month of December. They took a three point lead into the half after shooting 58 percent in the opening 20 minutes of play, however a combination of missed opportunities in transition and shooting just 50 percent from the charity stripe added up to a victory for the visiting Little Giants.

Denison displayed great balance on the offensive end, with junior Dan Izzo leading the way with 17 points. Senior Robb Hern finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Dan Hodgkinson was 4-of-8 from the field for 12 points. He also led the team with seven rebounds. Jordan Krantz and Chris Eberst both chipped in 11 points for the Big Red.

Zimmer packed the biggest punch for Wabash as he finished 6-of-11 from the field and also snagged a game-high nine rebounds. Adonis Joseph was 6-of-12 from 16 points and Caleb Lyttle battled inside for 12 points and nine rebounds.

Denison shot 46 percent from the field (22-of-55) and was 19-of-28 from the free throw line for 69 percent. Wabash connected on 49 percent of their field goals and was 18-of-30 from the charity stripe. The Little Giants outrebounded Denison 43-35 and forced Denison into 26 turnovers. Wabash committed 19 turnovers in the contest.

Denison will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 19 when they travel to nearby Capital University for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Crusaders.
