Union 69, Lehman 62

Bronx, NY — Bronx, NY- Lehman College senior center Sekani Francis scored 17 points and pulled down a game high 16 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Lightning were defeated by Union College 69-62 in a Saturday matinee at the APEX Arena.

Union (5-2) was led by the play of senior guard John Cagianello. Cagianello scored 31 points including several key three pointers after Lehman had cut into the Dutchmen’s ten point lead. With 1:07 remaining, the Lightning had the lead down to 62-60, before a Lehman turnover, and a three pointer by Cagianello sealed the fate for the Lightning.

Lehman (2-6) also had strong contributions from freshman guard Jason Marchena who finished with eleven points. Union College center Darcy Bonner was the only other double digit scorer for the Dutchmen with eleven points.

Up next for Lehman is the Dunkin Donuts Holiday Classic on December 29th-30th. The Lightning will take on St. Joseph’s College (BK) in one semi-final, while St. Joseph’s College (LI) will take on Medgar Evers College in the other.
