Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann tallied a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four steals. Sophomore forward Ross Watson added 20 points off of the bench while junior forward Brad Bowman and freshman guard James Beedle added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
AJ White had 19 points and six assists to lead the Terriers. Michael McDevitt had 17 points and six boards while TC Spencer totaled 14 points and seven rebounds.
Thiel (2-7) stretched its first-half lead to seven (21-14) before Hiram used a 15-7 lead over the next 5:33 to take a 29-28 lead.
The Terriers closed out the half by outscoring the Tomcats 19-5 and went into the half with a 49-33 lead.
After going down by as many as 16 (51-35) early in the second half Thiel battled back by outscoring Hiram 33-11 over the opening 13:35 of the second half to tie the game at 68-68 with 6:25 remaining in the contest.
Hiram (2-5), after pulling in front by 10 (80-70) with just over three minutes in the game, knocked down seven-of-eight free throws down the stretch to preserve the 11-point win.
As a team Hiram knocked down 50.0 percent (27-54) from the floor and finished with a 39-27 advantage in rebounds.
Thiel shot 47.7 percent (31-65) from the floor and hit 10-of-27 (37.0 %) from three-point range.
The Tomcats will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 29 at the College of Wooster Tournament. Thiel will take on Lycoming College in the first round at 5:30 p.m.
