Christopher Newport 71, Frostburg State 60

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Christopher Newport's men's basketball team dropped Frostburg St. 71-60 Saturday evening in the Freeman Center.

Neither team could find its shooting rhythm, as the two squads combined to shoot 27% from the field.

CNU led at the break, 33-22, on 13-of-37 (35%) shooting from the floor, 3-of-10 from behind the arc and just 4-of-8 from the free throw line. The Bobcats could not find the basket in the first half, finishing 7-of-36 (19%) from the field, 2-of-10 on threes and 6-of-9 (67%) from the charity stripe.

The shooting did not improve in the second half, as neither team broke 40%. Both teams managed 38 points in the second half. Frostburg St. finished the half 13-of-42 (31%) from the field, 2-of-16 (13%) from behind the arc and 10-of-16 (63%) from the stripe. The Captains finished the half 7-of-21 (33%) from the floor, 2-of-4 on threes and 22-of-34 (65%) from the free throw line.

For the game, the Bobcats were 20-of-78 (26%) from the floor, 4-of-26 (15%) on threes and 16-of-25 (64%) from the line. CNU finished 2-of-58 (35%) from the field, 5-of-14 (36%) from behind the arc and 26-of-42 (62%) from the charity stripe.

Keith Hazel led Frostburg with 16 points and seven rebounds. Daniel Ryley added 12 points and 14 boards while Brian Green contributed 10 points.

The Captains were led by Jeremy Romeo with 20 points. Korey Lewis added 16 points and seven boards, Davon Barton finished with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Mark Blasingame had his best night in a CNU uniform. The freshman from Yorktown, VA finished with seven points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks, one off the school record.

The Bobcats fall to 3-6 on the year while the Captains improve to 6-1. CNU returns to action Tuesday as they take on Keystone (PA) at 6 pm in the Myrtle Beach (SC) Classic. Greensboro will take on 17th ranked Lincoln at 8 pm.
