The Crusaders drop to 4-5 on the year, 2-2 in the OAC, while Baldwin-Wallace moves to 8-1 with a perfect 4-0 mark in the OAC.
A three-pointer by freshman guard Nate Stahl gave Capital a 22-21 lead at the 8:20 mark in a first half that was close throughout until the Yellow Jackets went on a 26-14 run after Stahl's three to give them a 47-36 lead going into the break.
Baldwin-Wallace's Tori Davis, who scored a game-high 26 points, sparked the Yellow Jackets with 13 points during the run and a total of 19 in the half.
The Yellow Jackets held a double-digit lead for a good portion of the second half, but the Crusaders were able to chip away and with an 11-2 run that spanned five minutes they were able to cut the deficit to 64-60 with 8:30 to play.
Although Capital never led in the second frame, they kept themselves in striking distance and had a chance to tie but a Dave Johnson jumper rattled out with six ticks on the clock and the Yellow Jackets were able to escape with 85-82 win. The Crusaders shot 7-12 from behind the three-point line in the second half
Johnson, one of five double-digit scorers for the Crusaders, led the way with 16 points on the afternoon to go along with six assists. Stahl tallied 14 markers while post players Jake Meisler and Steve Kyser each notched 12. Meisler tied for the team lead with five rebounds. Sophomore forward Brad Buckner came off the bench for 10 points and five boards.
Capital will take a day off before returning home to The Capital Center to host Denison University on Monday at 7 p.m.
