Waldorf (Iowa) 70, Augsburg 59

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Brian Allen (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, rallying Waldorf College (Iowa) to a 70-59 victory over host Augsburg College (Minn.) in a nonconference men's basketball game Saturday night at Si Melby Hall.

The Warriors rallied from an early 12-3 deficit and outscored the Auggies 43-31 in the second half to improve to 4-9 overall.

Despite a season-high 27 points from Dan Graf (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), Augsburg dropped to 2-6 overall.

Allen shot 7-for-10 from the field for the Warriors -- including going a perfect 7-for-7 in the second half -- as the visitors rallied from a 28-27 halftime deficit. His squad shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field in the second half, going 48.1 percent (25-for-52) from the field in the game.

A 14-5 run over a five-minute span late in the second half gave Waldorf a commanding 59-47 lead with 2:49 left, an advantage eventually stretched to as many as 13 points in the closing minutes.

Meanwhile, Augsburg hit just 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the field in the game. Subtracting Graf's team-high 9-of-13 performance from the field, the rest of the Auggies hit just 10-of-40 (25.0 percent) from the field in the game.

Graf scored 10 of Augsburg's first 12 points, as the Auggies built a 12-3 lead in the first 5:27 of play. Augsburg led 19-7 with 9:26 to play in the first half -- its largest lead of the game -- before Waldorf used a 12-1 run to cut the lead to 20-19 with 5:36 left in the half. Devin Banks (So., Blue River, Ore.) had six of his 14 points in the game during the 12-1 run.

Waldorf took just its second lead of the game a minute into the second half, and after a 30-30 tie, did not trail from that point forward.

Davon White (So., Omaha, Neb.) had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Waldorf, while Will Pendergrass (Sr., Romulus, Mich.) had 11 points, and Matt Welp (Jr., Forest City, Iowa) had six points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Travis Deahl (Fr., McCallsburg, Iowa) had six points and Ryan Edwards (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) had five points and six assists.

For Augsburg, Zeph Jones (Sr., Flint, Mich./Flint Central HS) had eight points and nine rebounds, while Darren Nelson (So., Richfield, Minn.) had eight points. Kevin Keto (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) had five points, five assists and six steals, and Justin Kozlowski (So., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) had four points and five assists. Grant Hemmingsen (Jr., New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) had seven rebounds.

Both teams return to action on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg has a nonconference game at Northwestern-Roseville, while Waldorf hosts Central (Iowa).
