Texas Lutheran (4-4, 3-3 ASC) trailed by four at the half, 28-24, but came out of the break and quickly grabbed the lead.
Seniors Matt Nelson and Will Hudson set the tone for the Bulldogs in the second half. Hudson hit back-to-back three-pointers at the beginning of the half, and Nelson put together one of his best games in the post. After scoring 10 in the first half, Nelson added nine more in the second half. He connected on nine of 13 shots from the floor.
“Will hit a couple of big threes, and Nelly really put on a show with some post moves,” said Tom Oswald, TLU’s head coach. “We played well after a sluggish start and again did a nice job on the defensive end.”
Nate Walton added 11 for Texas Lutheran. He hit both of his three-pointers midway through the second half as Austin College still trailed by single digits. Walton’s second three of the half put the Bulldogs up by 12 with 5:08 to play.
TLU senior point guard Jason Morales scored just one point, but he added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Anthony Holman led Austin College with 14 points. He was the lone Kangaroo in double figures.
