The Bears fall to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAC while the Yellow Jackets remain unbeaten in OAC play with three wins and a 7-1 overall record.
Junior Bart Hostetler led the Polar Bears with a career-high 18 points and tied his career-high with nine rebounds.
Northern had two other players score in double figures. Sophomore Kyle Gehle scored 15 points and junior Mike Hunter had a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams battled hard in the first half, but BW was able to push their lead to 19-13 on a Chad Clark layup with 13:47 left in the first half.
A layup by Gehle pulled the Bears back into the game at 19-19 with 12:28 left in the half.
The two teams traded points for the remainder of the half and entered halftime with a 35-35 score.
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 56-48 in the second half on a Dan Gundert layup with 9:28 left in the game.
Nothern was able to tie the game 63-63, on a key three-pointer by junior Greg Badenhop with 3:19 left.
Badenhop had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer with five seconds left, but the shot fell short and Tyler Sekerak grabbed the rebound with two seconds left to secure the win for Baldwin-Wallace.
“We played very hard, right down to the last second,” said ONU head coach Jeff Coleman. “It’s always tough to lose a game, but we played a good team and hung in there the entire game.”
The Bears hit 28-of-61 field goals for 45.9%, while BW shot 26-of-52 for 50.0%.
The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Bears 35-31.
BW was lead by Tori Davis’s 21 points and nine rebounds, while Brendan Schuler chipped in 12 points.
The Polar Bears return to action Saturday when they travel to University Heights to face John Carroll in a 3 p.m. tip-off.
