Chicago 68, Concordia (Ill.) 55

RIVER FOREST, Ill. — A 12-0 run midway through the second half enabled the University of Chicago Maroons to hold off the host Concordia Cougars this evening by a final score of 68-55. Chicago improved to 6-3 on the season while Concordia slipped to 4-4.
Maroons' guard Jesse Meyer had the hot hand early, scoring 16 of his 19 points in the first half as Chicago built a 37-27 halftime lead. Concordia began to muscle up inside in response, getting a basket by Cortez Hale and four points by Bobby Smith. When Lafeyette Bell drove to the basket and was fouled, his two free throws trimmed the Chicago lead to 44-40 with 10:21 left.
That was as close as the home team would come, however. Chicago came out of a 30-second timeout and began their run behind the play of forward Tim Reynolds. The 6'7" sophomore scored on a lay-up and, on the next possession, assisted on Nate Hainje's three. Reynolds then scored on a putback and continued the run with a steal that eventually led to Brandon Woodhead's three. Reynolds' jumper ended the spurt that gave the visitors a 56-40 edge, and the Cougars would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Woodhead scored 19 points to share scoring honors with Meyer, and Reynolds finished with 10. Rebounding honors went to Reynolds with 11 as the Maroons claimed a 37-26 advantage in that category. Concordia was led by Justin Gray's 14 points, while Ryan Young added 12 and Bobby Smith 11.
