With the score tied at 21-21 with 9:44 to play, the Judges started their run as Kevin Olson hit a three-pointer to put Brandeis on top. Steve DeLuca added a three-point play a minute later, while Huston Conti added a layup with 6:08 to play. A layup by Colby-Sawyer's Matt Spanos ended the four-minute Charger scoreless drought, but Kwame Graves-Fulgham hit a three-pointer to put Brandeis up, 32-23, with 5:44 left in the half.
After a Charger timeout, Tyler Fournier hit a jumper, cutting the lead to seven, but Conti added his only three-pointer of the night to put the Judges up by 10, 35-25.
In the second half, Brandeis led by as many as 16 with 7:33 left, 75-59, but the Chargers slowly cut into the deficit. A free-throw shot by Fournier with 5:30 to play cut the margin to nine, and, after a jumper by Graves-Fulgham, a three-pointer by Pat Kenny cut the deficit to eight just over a minute later. The Chargers would cut the lead to five with two minutes to play, keyed by a dunk and a layup by Andrew St. Clair, the second of which he was fouled and made the subsequent free throw to make the score 79-74.
The Judges would put the game away at the foul line, however, as they made 5-of-6 in the final two minutes and added in a pair of layups after beating the Colby-Sawyer trap.
St. Clair scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds for the Chargers, who fall to 4-3 on the season. Matt Spanos added 12 points while Collin Bray had 10 to go along with eight assists.
For Brandeis, which improves to 6-3 on the year, Graves-Fulgham had a game-high 21 points to lead four players in double-figures. Florian Rexhepi had 17 points while DeLuca added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Coppens added 11 points in the win for the Judges.
Colby-Sawyer is now off until Jan. 1, 2006, when the Chargers face Springfield in the second game of the Holiday Inn-Naismith Classic at Springfield, Mass., at 7 p.m.
