Rutgers-Newark 87, Mount Saint Vincent 52

RIVERDALE, NY — Senior Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) scored 13 points and sophomore Corey Petrucelli (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph’s) added 12 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team lost its third straight game, 87-52 to NJAC powerhouse Rutgers-Newark in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the loss, the Mount falls to 3-5 on the season and now faces a stretch where five of their next six games will be against Skyline Conference competition.

The Dolphins held strong against a very physical and athletic Rutgers-Newark opponent, and trailed 35-24 at halftime. However, poor shooting and turnovers doomed the Mount during the second half when the Scarlet Raiders (6-2) outscored the Dolphins, 52-28. Mount Saint Vincent shot 27% from the floor during the final 20 minutes while Rutgers-Newark shot 62% during the same stretch to turn an otherwise close game into a blowout. The Mount also turned the ball over 30 times while the Scarlet Raiders committed only 19 turnovers.

For Rutgers-Newark, junior Philippe Slater (Newark, NJ/University) scored a game-high 20 points, while senior Justin Carter (Paterson, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent will look to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when they travel to Skyline Conference archrival, Yeshiva, for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
