Christopher Newport 88, Maryland Bible 57

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Christopher Newport's men's basketball team regrouped after nine days off to defeat Maryland Bible 88-57 Monday night.

The Captains overcame a sluggish first half and erupted for 53 points in the second half to come away with the 31-point win.

CNU led 35-23 at the break shooting 13-of-28 (46%) from the field including 2-of-4 from behind the arc and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. The Captains also committed 10 turnovers. MBC however shot just 8-of-29 (28%) from the floor, 1-of-6 (17%) on threes and 6-of-8 (75%) from the charity stripe.

In the second half, the Captains out scored the Eagles 53-34. CNU finished 18-of-34 (53%) from the floor, 6-of-11 (55%) from behind the arc and 11-of-14 (79%) from the free throw line. CNU held MBC to just 13-of-33 (39%) shooting in the second half, 0-of-4 on threes and 8-of-13 (62%) from the line.

For the game, Maryland Bible finished 21-of-62 (34%) from the floor, 1-of-10 on threes and 14-of-21 (67%) from the stripe. Christopher Newport finished 31-of-62 (50%) from the field, 8-of-15 (53%) from behind the arc and 18-of-24 (75%) from the free throw line.

The Eagles were led by Emil Curry's 21 points and five rebounds. Curry scored 27 and 38 in his two games during the CNU Invitational back in November. Also in double figures was Tim Squire who finished with 11 points.

CNU was paced by five players in double figures. Jeremy Romeo led the way with 15 points, Korey Lewis finished with 13 points, Edward Riley added 13 points and seven boards off the bench, Davon Barton contributed 10 points and seven assists while Dont'a Selden finished with 10 points and eight assists.

Maryland Bible is now 5-3 while the Captains improve to 5-1. CNU returns to action Saturday as they host Frostburg St. at 7:30 pm.
