Lawrence 78, Carthage 65

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (2-6, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to No. 9 Lawrence University (6-0), 78-65, on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. The game was close throughout the first half and tied six times. Lawrence led by one point at the break, 30-29. In the second half, the Vikings opened up an eight-point lead, 37-29, at 17:05. The Red Men used a 13-3 run to take a two-point lead, 42-40, at 13:11. The game’s eighth tie came at 11:22 with the score knotted at 46-46. Lawrence took the lead for good, 49-46, at 11:08 on a three-pointer by Ryan Kroeger. The Vikings opened up an 11-point lead, 67-56, at 3:03 and went on to win by 13 points, 78-65. Lawrence shot 49 percent (29-59), while Carthage shot 45 percent (25-56). Kyle Jeffery topped the Red Men with 18 points on seven-of-11 field goals, including four-of-five three pointers. Trey Bowens had 13 points, and Brian Schlemm, making his first appearance of the year after missing the first seven games with an ankle injury, added 11 points. Kyle MacGillis topped the Vikings with 17 points on seven-of-15 from the floor, while Matt Osland had 14 points. Chris Braier, Lawrence’s leading scorer, was limited to nine points, but he pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and collected five assists. The Red Men are idle until Monday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Mequon, Wis., to play Concordia University (Wis.) in a 7 p.m. game at the John Bucck Fieldhouse.
