University of New England 77, Maine-Farmington 74

BIDDEFORD, Maine — John Marriott '08 (Fairfax, Vt.) scored five of his career-high 21 points in overtime to help lift the University of New England to a 77-74 come-from-behind overtime victory over the University of Maine Farmington in a non-conference men's basketball game played Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

The victory was the second in row for the Nor'easters, who improved to 3-4. The Beavers dropped their second game in their last three outings to slip to 5-2.

The Nor'easters trailed all afternoon until Eric Field '09 (Stratton, Maine) made 1 of 2 free throws with 5:08 remaining in regulation to give UNE a 59-58 lead. Farmington responded by going on a 5-0 run before UNE chipped away in the closing minutes. Mark Regis '06 (Monroe, N.H.) made a driving lay-up with 49 seconds on the clock to force overtime.

Marriott opened up the extra session by nailing a 3-pointer from the left side, giving the Nor'easters a lead (70-67) that they would never relinquish. After a Farmington bucket Matt McManus '06 (Cumberland, R.I.) knocked down his only 3-pointer of the game to give UNE a 73-69 advantage. The Nor'easters hung on in the closing stages despite making just 4 of 8 free throw attempts.

Isaac Stickney '08 (Rumford, Maine) registered his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds for UNE. Regis finished with 15 points and a team-high five assists, while McManus tossed in 13 points and grabbed eight boards.

Sean Fry '08 (Jay, Maine) led the way for the Beavers with 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Matt St. John '08 (Wayne, Maine) chipped in with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Travis Carrier '06 (Auburn, Maine) scored 12 points and Isaac Hutchinson '08 (Oakland, Maine) 10.

The Nor'easters return to the court Tuesday when they play host to the University of Southern Maine at 7:30 p.m. UMF is idle until after the holiday. The Beavers play at Bowdoin College on January 7.
