UW-Stevens Point recorded its eighth straight win over UW-L and it was the Pointers' 15th win in the last 16 meetings.
The Eagles made their first four shots of the game to lead 9-5 before missing their next five attempts. UW-Stevens Point trailed 22-21 with 5:35 remaining in the first half before going on a 13-2 run to end the half. UW-L hit two field goals in the final 6:57 of the half.
UW-L could get no closer than five at 46-41 with 11:26 remaining. UW-Stevens Point went on a 7-2 run to lead 53-43 with 7:20 remaining.
Joe Werner led UW-L with 17 points and seven rebounds, hitting eight-of-10 from the field. Marcus Conigliaro and Timothy Owen each scored 11 for the Eagles.
UW-L shot 42.3% from the field, including 31.8% (seven-of-22) from three-point range. The Eagles were four-of-11 (36.4%) from the free throw line.
Brian Bauer led UW-Stevens Point starters in double figures with 20 points. Jon Krull added 13 while Steve Hicklin and Pete Rortvedt each added 12.
UW-Stevens Point shot 44.6% from the field, including 27.8% (five-of-18) from three-point range. The Pointers were eight-of-14 (57.1%) at the line.
