St. Ambrose 95, Buena Vista 79

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Buena Vista University was defeated by St. Ambrose University 95-79 in a non-conference game on Saturday. The team's worst shooting performance of the season doomed the Beavers' chances of picking up a road victory.

With the game tied 37-37, St. Ambrose went on a 8-1 run to close out the first half. The Fighting Bees scored the first four points of the second half and did not allow Buena Vista within seven points the rest of the way.

Buena Vista, which fell to 1-4 with the loss, shot just 30 of 79 (38%) from the floor and an icy 7 of 26 (27%) from three-point range. The Beavers also were 12 of 20 (60%) from the free throw line.

St. Ambrose, which was ranked in the pre-season NAIA national poll, hit on 33 of 69 (48%) field goal attempts. The Fighting Bees, now 6-6 on the year, also held a 50-45 rebounding edge and made 20 of 28 (71%) free throw attempts. St. Ambrose held a 8-1 edge in blocked shots.

Rahn Franklin led Buena Vista with a career-high 16 points and four assists. Andre Wagner, who made just four of the 18 shots he took from the floor, registered 14 points. Nolan Grimm added nine points and Brian Fogleman contributed eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Ricky Mojek scored a career-high 18 points and was one of five St. Ambrose players to reach double digits. Ante Juric made four three-point shots off of the bench and ended the game with 16 points. Brandin Smith added 13 points. Andrew Bryant and Chris Washington each recorded a double-double. Bryant scored 10 points and yanked down 12 rebounds. Washington chipped in 10 points and dished out 10 assists.

Buena Vista will return to action on Friday, December 16 in the first round of the Elmhurst Tournament. The Beavers will take on Olivet College.
