The Saints battled with The Mount for the first 20 minutes of the game, nearly matching their counterparts basket for basket. Thomas More even held on advantage in shooting, connecting on 45 percent of its shots. In contrast, the Lions hit 39 percent from the field. The difference came as MSJ made six three-pointers, while Thomas More had just two.
At the break, TMC trailed by just five points, 41-36.
Consecutive turnovers to start the second half signaled things to come as TMC turned the ball over 16 times in the second stanza. The turnovers allowed the Lions to get easy shots in transition.
Thomas More also went cold from the field as it was just 24 percent (nine-of-38) from the field.
For the second game in a row, freshman Mark Krebs (Newport/Newport Central Catholic) led the team in scoring, depositing 16 points on 4-of-15 shooting. Junior E.J. Haynes (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) added 13 points, all in the first half, and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds.
Senior R.K. Thurman (Portsmouth, OH/Portsmouth) had his first double-double of the season, securing 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Thomas More (0-8) will host Transylvania on December 20 at Connor Convocation Center.
