Milwaukee Engineering 73, Edgewood 58

Milwaukee, Wis. — Bayiha and Mikos shine, Raiders win 73-58 over Edgewood

Floyd Bayiha (Superior, Wis. / Cameroon) scored a game-high 30 points on 10-for-15 shooting as Milwaukee School of Engineering won its third straight conference game, 73-58 over Edgewood College at the Kern Center on Saturday afternoon.

“Floyd was able to get some easy points with transition lay-ups. It was a big day for him,” MSOE coach Brian Miller said.

Bayiha also went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, 7-for-8 from the free throw line, and contributed five rebounds and four assists.

Bayiha wasn’t the only Raider to have a big game against the reigning Lake Michigan Conference champions.

Senior guard Jeff Mikos (Lake Zurich, Ill. / Lake Zurich) broke a 23-year-old school record after recording his 279th career steal with 4:25 left in the first half.

“The record is exciting for both me and the team – we played well in front of a big crowd and we’re having success this season,” Mikos said after the game. “It’s always good to be on top of a record, as long as it’s not turnovers.”

Mikos dished out six assists, recorded five steals and finished with six points on 1-for-5 shooting. He went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

The Raiders began the game with a strong defensive attack and jumped out to a 13-0 lead over the Eagles with 14:20 left in the first half.

“We played pressure defense, forced turnovers and I was able to get some buckets in transition,” said Bayiha, a senior guard. “Coach told us to go hard off screens because we could beat them with our speed.”

The Raiders led by 16 at the half, but the Eagles fought their way to within six points at 53-47 with 6:32 left in the game. The Raiders regrouped after a timeout and the Eagles could not catch up.

Sophomore forward Jake Gay (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln Way Central) scored seven of the next nine Raider points to spark an 18-6 run and seal the win.
