Delaware Valley 86, Arcadia 78

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Junior guard Isaiah Pinckney matched a career-high with 33 points to lead Delaware Valley College to its first win of the season, an 86-78 triumph over visiting Arcadia University in a non-conference game.

The win improved the Aggies to 1-7 and it snapped a 10-game losing streak dating back to last season. The Knights fell to 2-5 on the young season.

Pinckney hit 10 of 14 shots from the field, including a 7-for-10 performance from 3-point land, and all six of his free throw attempts. He also added six assists, five steals and three rebounds in 40 minutes of play.

Delaware Valley shot a scorching 63 percent from the field (29-for-46), including a 15-for-20 effort in the second half. The team was also 16-for-18 (88.9%) from the foul line.

The Aggies jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game, with eight points coming from Zack Van Dyke and the other four from Pat Lenahan. Arcadia bounced back and cut its deficit to three, 20-17 with 8:38 to go in the half, but Pinckney hit three, 3-pointers in a row for a 29-17 advantage with 4:43 remaining. Delaware Valley extended the lead to 13, but Arcadia scored the final nine points of the half to trail by just four, 36-32.

Early in the second half, the Aggies used an 8-0 run to up their lead to 51-36 and it remained a 15-point contest until Delaware Valley used a quick spurt to build its largest advantage of the game, 69-49, with 10:01 to go.

Delaware Valley still held a 20-point lead five minutes later, but the Knights made a furious run and scored 19 of the next 22 points to trail 79-75 with 2:19 remaining. Sterling Green had six points in the spurt for Arcadia.

A pair of free throws by Pinckney made it 81-75 with 1:46 to go, but Green responded with a three-point play and an 81-78 ballgame with 39 ticks left. However, Jason Seipt hit five of six free throws down the stretch to put the game away for Delaware Valley.

In addition to Pinckney’s big day, Lenahan added 15 points and five rebounds while Van Dyke finished with 12 points and five boards. Ryan Walsh contributed nine points and four assists in the win.

Eric Elliott hit eight of 13 shots from the field, including a 7-for-11 effort from beyond the arc, to finish with 25 points for Arcadia. Green added 19 points and a game-high seven rebounds while Andrew Martin reached double figures with 12 points.
