The first-half featured five lead changes and two ties before a 17-3 run midway thru the half gave DSU an 11-point lead, 33-22. During the spurt, senior Mike Zinn had seven points, one assist and a steal and fellow senior Drew Christman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) capped the run with a trey at the 3:28 mark. DSU took an eight point advantage into the locker room and shot 62.5 percent in the opening frame.
In the second half it was all DeSales (5-3 overall). Albright (5-2 overall) got as close as five points early in the second period, but a 21-6 run gave DSU a 21-point lead with 8:29 to play and the Bulldogs never looked back. During the decisive second-half run, Zinn hit consecutive three-pointers and Christman had seven points including another trey to finish the spurt.
Christman, sophomore Eddie Ohlson and sophomore Phil Stricker each had 15 points to lead the attack and Zinn added 14 on a perfect 3-for-3 from outside the arc. Ohlson added a game-high five dimes and Stricker pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Junior Sedale Walton had another solid outing off the bench, totaling nine points and three assists and freshman Ed Lapinski added six points, five rebounds and two blocks off the pine.
Senior Trevor Deeter was held to 13 points, 11 over the last seven minutes, and senior Andy Winebrenner and sophomore Taylor Steltz each tallied 10 points in the loss. Deeter pulled a team-high eight rebounds for the Lions.
