Cazenovia 96, Philadelphia Bible 78

— The Cazenovia College Wildcats men’s basketball team defeated the Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagles by a score of 98-78 on Sat., Dec. 10, in Cazenovia’s first home North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the 2005-2006 season. With the win, the Wildcats move to 3-5 on the year and 2-0 in NEAC play. The Crimson Eagles fall to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the loss.

Cazenovia controlled the game from the tip-off by taking high-percentage shots inside on the smaller Philadelphia Biblical squad.

Cazenovia forward, and December of 2005 graduate, Bryan Bishop (’06, Watertown / South Jefferson HS), in his final home-game of his Wildcat career, took charge of the Cazenovia offence. Shooting an astonishing 15-for-15 from the field, Bishop finished the game with a game-high and season-high 34 points. Bishop also added six rebounds, four assists and a steal in 30 minutes of play.

Bishop, who is a Sport Management major, has excelled in his last two games. Including his game against Utica College on Thurs., Dec. 8, Bishop is a combined 24-for-29 from the field for 54 points.

Cazenovia’s Steven Zavackis (’07, Carthage / Carthage HS) contributed with his second double-double of the season. Zavackis finished the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Zavazkis shot 5-for-9 from the field and went 2-for-3 from the line.

As a team, the Wildcats shot a season-high 54 percent from the field (39-for-72) and a season-high 65 percent from the free-throw line (11-for-17). The Wildcats also out-rebounded the Crimson Eagles by a season high +16 margin (50-to-34).

Chase Byler finished 9-for-20 from the field to end the game with a team-high 21 points for the Crimson Eagles. Byler also pulled down four rebounds and had a team-high five assists in 33 minutes of play.

Cazenovia will next be in action when they take a step up in division to take on the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Sun., Dec. 18. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM in Syracuse, N.Y.
