Potsdam (1-7, 0-0 SUNYAC) held a 34-20 lead at intermission, thanks in large part to a 32-17 rebounding edge. The Bears had 15 offensive boards in the first half, several of which led to second-chance points. The Lady Saxons (4-5, 0-0 Empire 8) turned the tables in the second half, outrebounding Potsdam 31-19, while holding the visitors to 17-percent shooting.
Alfred got 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and eight blocked shots from senior center Kylene Knoll (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and 11 points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Meg Coddington (Amherst, NH/Souhegan). Freshman forward Melanie Jackson (Andover, NY/Wellsville) added six points, four assists and nine rebounds and freshman guard Colleen Montgomery (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) had eights points and six boards for Alfred.
Guards Kathleen Lewis (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) and Hannah Fairchild (Brushton, NY/Brushton-Moria) and forward Clare Ennis (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) paced Potsdam with nine points each. Guard Maureen Curley (Madrid, NY/Madrid-Waddington) had a game-high 10 rebounds and five steals.
Alfred plays next on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at home against St. Lawrence, while Potsdam plays in the King’s College Tournament Jan. 6 and 7.
