Centre 68, Thomas More 51

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky — Thomas More displayed physical defense in yielding its lowest output of the season, allowing a mere 68 points. However, they fell to Centre in Thursday's home opener at Connor Convocation Center, 68-51.

The Saints limited Centre to 28 percent shooting in the second half in six-of-22 shooting, but the Colonels were able to march to the free throw line 18 times. For the game, Centre was 17-of-24 from the charity stripe, while Thomas More was 0-2.

Both teams shot well in the first half, but it was the Colonels who held the edge - converting 57 percent of their shots in racing to a 20 point lead with 3:22 left in the half.

However, the Saints were able to trim five points off the deficit and go into the locker rooms down just 15.

Following a tip-in by junior E.J. Haynes, the Colonels called a timeout to steady the troops as their lead was 12. But, the Saints were able to keep the momentum, and crawl to within 10.

But, it seemed as their was a glass ceiling at 10 as the Saints pulled to within the mark on several occasions with multiple chances to get to single digits.

Centre converted free throws down the stretch to extend its advantage to 17.

Freshman Mark KrebS led the Saints with 15 points on seven-of-12 shooting, while junior R.K. Thurman added 12 points and eight rebounds. Haynes chipped in with 10 points, a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks. It was the fifth time in seven games that Haynes led the team in rebounding.

Thomas More (0-7) will look for its first win of the season when they travel to Cincinnati, OH to face rival-Mount St. Joseph.
