Geneva 62, Grove City 59

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 2-4 Thursday night with a 62-59 loss to visiting NAIA Geneva at the Grove City College Arena in non-conference action.

Grove City had possession twice in the final 10 seconds but could not convert on either opportunity. The Wolverines turned the ball over with four seconds left and following a Bam Harmon free throw, a half-court attempt by sophomore guard Shawn Carr fell short at the buzzer.

The game featured nine ties. The largest lead either team had in the second half was five, by Geneva.

Junior forward Mark Smith led Grove City with a season-high 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Wolverines also committed a season-low seven turnovers. However, Grove City shot just 34 percent (21 of 61) from the floor.

Grove City also made just one of 15 three-point attempts. The Wolverines entered the game shooting 43 percent behind the three-point line for the season. Geneva out-rebounded Grove City, 42-37.

Bam Harmon and Kyle McDermott led Geneva (5-4) with 14 points each. The game was the 148th between the two teams, dating back to 1899. Grove City owns a 79-69 edge in the all-time series.

The Wolverines will visit Case Western Reserve Saturday night at 7:30.
