Capital 108, Marietta 75

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital held visiting Marietta, which came into Wednesday (Dec. 7) night's game averaging a league-high 101.5 points, to a season low 75 in a Crusaders' 108-75 victory at the Capital Center.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders (3-4, 1-1 OAC) scored a season-high 108 points to snap a four-game losing streak.

Marietta jumped on top early 4-0, but Capital followed with a 22-4 run to take the momentum with 11:04 remaining in the half. The Pioneers battled back to pull within four points, 43-39, at the three-minute mark and Capital entered the half ahead 49-41.

Capital came out of the locker room with a 20-8 run over the first five minutes of the second half, taking advantage of a lull in Marietta's intensity, to regain control of the game, 69-49. The Pioneers were never able to regroup and the Crusaders went on to the 33-point victory.

Marietta finished just 24-of-70 (.343) from the field, including 12-of-39 (.308) from beyond the arc to go along with 15-of-23 (652) from the line. Capital went 46-of-68 (.676) from the floor, 1-of-2 (.500) from long range and 15-of-23 (.652) from the charity stripe, while out rebounding Marietta 53-29 in the win.

Freshman Nate Stahl led Capital with a career-high 27 points, while Steve Kyser (16 points), Jake Meisler (12 points) and David Johnson (10 points) all finished in double figures.

Marietta was paced by junior Chad Sponseller (Canton/GlenOak), who connected on four three-pointers to finish with 16 points. Sophomore Craig Stewart (Circleville) and freshman Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) each added three from long distance to collect 14 and nine points, respectively.

The Pioneers will return to action Saturday (Dec. 10) when the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern visit Fenton Court for some OAC action. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. and it is Campers Day for the men's team. All youngsters who participated in MC's men's basketball summer basketball camp are invited and will be acknowledged at halftime.
