Trinity (5-2) trailed 27-38 at the half, with the Islanders jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Trinity stayed in the game early, but the Tigers went scoreless for a five-minute span. The Islanders then used a 16-9 run over the final eight minutes of the period to get to the halftime margin, helped by 11 Trinity turnovers.
The Tigers got to within eight four minutes into the second half (39-47), but went on another dry spell on the offensive end, and A&M-Corpus pulled away.
Andy Bates led Trinity with 21 points on 7-13 shooting, collecting two rebounds and two assists in the game. Bates has led the team in scoring in each of the past three games.
Jay Riola and James Lake finished with 13 points each. Ross Burt and Mitch Walker led the team with four assists each, while Burt also led the Tigers with four rebounds.
A&M-Corpus was led by a career-high 30 points from Chris Daniels, while Josh Washington had 18 points for the Islanders.
Trinity shot 42.9% from the field, while the Islanders shot better than 50% for the game. The Islanders also hit 47% of their three-point shots, while Trinity connected on just 32% from distance.
Trinity will return home to host Manchester (IN) and Dominican (IL) in the Trinity/Southwestern Holiday Classic Tournament on December 29 and December 30.
