Vikings clip Nighthawks
Brookline, MA: In a game that went back and forth throughout the majority of the 40 minutes, the Vikings of Salem State College came out on top defeating the Newbury College Nighthawks by a score of 68-65.
Salem state started things off by opening the game on a 10-2 run, although down by 12 at one point, the Nighthawks went on a run of their own, and both teams were tied going into the lockeroom at 35.
The second half was much of the same, as both teams played inspired ball and made key baskets and defensive stops when needed. Unfortunately for the Nighthawks, the Vikings scored late in the game on a clutch 3 pointer to take the lead for good for the exciting victory.
Newbury was led by sophomore co-Captain Arch Mitchell (Framingham, MA.Framingham), who led all scorers with 26 points on the night, with 16 of them becoming before the intermission. Salem State was led by junior swingman Eric Downie (Medford, MA/N. Cambridge Catholic) with a team-high 17 points.
The Nighthawks drop to 4-4 on the campaign, and Salem State improves to 3-4. Newbury College returns to action this Saturday when they travel to NY to play in the Bard Classic. The Nighthawks open up against Centenary College of New Jersey.
