LaGrange 95, Atlanta Christian 76

LAGRANGE, Ga. — LaGrange College pulled away in the second half for a 95-76 win over Atlanta Christian College at Mariotti Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Panthers upped their season record to 3-5, while the Chargers slipped to 2-13.

The two teams played to a 41-41 tie in the first half. The Chargers had stayed in the game by holding the Panthers to 38 percent shooting and out rebounding them 21-16. In the first four minutes of the second half, the lead swapped hands four times. Roger McDowell’s three-pointer put the Panthers up 51-49 with 15:37 left. The Panthers never trailed again.

The Panthers used the three-point shot to expand their lead. Antoine Maddox’s three-pointer pushed the Panthers’ lead to 64-53 with less than 10 minutes left. The Panthers used four more treys, the last by Maddux to go up 76-58.

The Chargers never got closer, as the Panthers pulled away. They led by as many as 24 points before coach Warren Haynes started substituting freely. The Panthers out rebounded the Chargers 29-20 in the second half. Michael Patterson had seven of his team-high eight rebounds in the second half, despite playing with four fouls.

Robby Lawrence led the Panthers with a game-high 21 points. He was one of five Panthers in double figures. Corie Jackson had 14 points, while Maddox had 11of his 13 points in the second half. Leon Williams and Demetris Render each had 12 points.

The Panthers play at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta on Saturday at 8 p.m.
