Fitchburg State 73, Nichols 58

Fitchburg, MA — Dan Koen (Auburn, MA) connected on all four of his first half three-point attempts in Fitchburg State’s 73-58 non-conference victory over visiting Nichols College Tuesday evening. The Falcons improved to 4-2 on the season while the Bison dipped to 2-3.

Koen registered 12 of his game-high 17 points in the first half as the Falcons, who never trailed in the game, raced out to a 51-24 lead at the intermission. Nick Smith (Fitchburg, MA/Leominster) tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season and sixth of his career. Peter Uzoma (Boston, MA/Concord-Carlisle) notched 10 points and 6 rebounds despite dodging foul trouble throughout the game. Freshman Jeff Kozik (Auburn, MA) came off the bench and contributed a career-best 7 steals including 6 in the first half.

Jah’maine Mercer (Bridgeport, CT) paced Nichols with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Casey Butler (East Longmeadow, MA) added 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Bison while Jerome Edgerton (Pittsfield, MA) potted 12 points.

The Falcons are off until Thursday when they travel to Clark for a 7pm contest. Nichols also returns to action on Thursday when they entertain Becker at 7pm.
