Elmhurst grabbed a lead at 2-1 in the opening minutes and never trailed the rest of the way, although Benedictine pulled close on several occasions.
The Bluejays stormed out to an 18-point first half lead at 30-12, but the Eagles slowly clawed their way back into contention. An Amanda Burditt 3-pointer with 3:23 to play brought the Eagles to within seven points at 36-29. Elmhurst carried a 40-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Both teams shot the ball well in the first half. Elmhurst finished the half shooting 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from the floor, while the Eagles hit 52.4 percent (11-of-21) of their shots.
Elmhurst scored the first five points of the second half, but four 3-pointers from the Eagles kept the game close. Benedictine shaved Elmhurst's 12-point advantage down to just five points (56-51) with 11:26 to play. The two teams traded buckets for the next four minutes with Elmhurst finally grabbing a 72-60 lead with six minutes to play off a Furr 3-pointer. Leading 73-64 with 4:14 remaining, the Bluejays closed the game on an 11-1 run.
Elmhurst made the most of Benedictine's mistakes, cashing in 26 Eagle turnovers for 38 points. Benedictine scored just five points off of 10 Elmhurst turnovers.
For the game, Elmhurst shot 47 percent from the floor (32-of-68) and 40 percent from 3-point range (6-of-15). The Bluejays hit 14-of-22 attempts (63.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
Benedictine outshot Elmhurst, hitting 48.9 percent of its attempts (22-of-45) from the floor. The Eagles connected on 7-of-19 3-point attempts (36.8 percent) and 14-of-21 (36.8 percent) free throw attempts.
Benedicinte had a hard time containing Furr. She finished with 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. She also dished out five assists and had four steals. Aja Terrier finished with 20 points and seven rebounds in the win. Candice Sutton totaled 12 points and finished with a game-high six assists. Ashley Stein finished with eight points and nine rebounds, while Vicky Miner added seven points.
Elmhurst had no real answer for Benedictine's Tamika Curtis. Curtis finished with a team-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while pulling down nine rebounds. Amanda Burditt finished with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Tiffany Hardy came off the bench to score 10 for the Eagles.
Elmhurst travels to Dominican University on Thursday, December 8.
