Madison, N.J. — Spurred by a 15-2 second half run, Drew University topped Stevens Tech, 69-50, in Madison. Leading by five at the half, the Rangers, led by Melissa Kraft, outscored the Ducks 36-22 in the second period to improve to 5-2 on the season. Courtney Cunningham sank a jumper and a three pointer surrounding a steal by Maggie Marquis to spark the Rangers’ spurt after the Ducks had cut the lead to single digits. Pam Kalakec, who dropped in 12 on the night, hit a pair of free throws and a lay-up and Melissa Kraft finished off the run with back-to-back three pointers to give Drew a commanding 65-43 advantage. Kraft led all scorers with 23, 16 in the second half, while Cunningham finished with 17.
For Stevens, Dora Enright led the team 15 points and 11 boards. Jean Matusiak scored 13 and Jenna Gambino added 11. The Ducks cut the lead to as little as two points in the second half, but could not overcome hot shooting by the Rangers, who hit 6 of 12 from three point in the final period.
The Rangers return to action next Tuesday as they travel to face William Paterson. The Ducks will face Mount Saint Vincent of Friday.
