New York City Tech 75, Brooklyn 58

BROOKLYN, NY — The defending CUNYAC Champions, New York City College of Technology, beat inter-borough rival Brooklyn College, 75-58 on the road in men’s basketball, for the team’s 22nd victory in their last 24 matchups versus conference opponents, dating back to the middle of the 2003-04 season.

Freshman point guard Jamaal Hall (Benjamin Banneker / Brooklyn, NY) scored 12 points of his shared game-high 17 points in the first half, as City Tech (3-4, 2-0 CUNYAC) forged ahead of their hosts, 33-27 at the half, despite shooting poorly from the field (34%). After the break, Hall (a team season-high seven assists) was the first player to score from either team, with his third three-pointer of the game, giving the Yellow Jackets a nine-point lead they would never relinquish. Junior forward Otis Saylee (Seward Park / New York, NY) had a big second half for the second straight game with 11 points. For the game, Saylee had 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals. Senior forward Danul Cabbagestalk (John Adams / Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with 12 points (all in the second half) and nine rebounds. Senior guards Clyde Forteau (St. Raymond’s / Bronx, NY) and Kareem Hanley (Canarsie / Brooklyn, NY) struggled from the field, but finished with 13 points each. The diminutive 5’7” Forteau actually led all players with 12 rebounds (6 offensive) and had a season-high six assists.

Brooklyn (4-3, 0-1) was led by seniors Jeffrey Jean-Baptiste (Holy Cross / Queens, NY) with 16 points while forward Tes Choudri (Forest Hills / Brooklyn, NY) with 14 points and eight rebounds.

City Tech will host another CUNYAC South Division rival, York College next on Thursday night, December 8th at the Klitgord Center. Tip-Off time is 7:00 pm.
