PITTSBURGH, Pa. — LATE FIRST-HALF RUN PROPELS YELLOW JACKETS PAST REDHAWKS

· Box Score
Against La Roche on Monday night, the Yellow Jackets engineered a 13-0 run over the last five minutes of the first half, as they registered a 67-58 victory over the Redhawks. Waynesburg hit all four of its free throws during the 20 seconds to seal a last-minute comeback by La Roche. The Yellow Jackets improved their record to 3-2 this season, while the loss drops the Redhawks' record to 1-4.

Junior guard Beau Wilson led all players with 22 points on 7-of-14 attempts in 35 minutes. The three-year starter connected on four of his six three-pointers and sank all four of his free throws. Wilson has scored 20-plus points in three of the five Yellow Jacket games this season and is averaging a career-high and team-leading 20 points/game.

La Roche led Monday's non-conference contest 27-20 with 5:47 left in the first half before forward Jeff Nero hit the second of his three consecutive Waynesburg baskets.

Nero joined Wilson in double-digits, as he finished with 10 points. The 6-1 junior also registered five rebounds and a game-high five steals after he entered the game ranked second in the conference with 2.75 steals/game.

The Redhawks made back-to-back three-pointers to open the second half and tie the score at 33-33, but the Yellow Jackets refused to surrender the lead, as Nero and senior Ryan Bujnowski countered with baskets for Waynesburg.

Bujnowski finished with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds after grabbing a career-high 13 boards in his last game.

La Roche stayed in the game due to its success from beyond the arc. Over half of the Redhawks' 49 field goal attempts came three-point territory, as they made 41.4 percent (12 of 29) of their long-range attempts.

Zack Kostorick led La Roche with 20 points and six rebounds, while teammate Frank Davis added 17 points and four blocks in the losing effort.

The Yellow Jackets committed a season-low nine personal fouls against the Redhawks, which is the lowest total in recent years.

Waynesburg returns to the Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 7, when it host Mt. Aloysius for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The Yellow Jackets recorded a 104-99 win over the Mounties in last season's contest. Guard Marc Lodovico paced the Waynesburg offense with 22 points and eight assists, while five of his teammates also scored in double figures.
