Elizabethtown 73, King's 56

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The second time proved much easier for Elizabethtown, as the Blue Jays defeated King’s 73-56 on the road Monday night. Elizabethtown had edged King’s by just one point in its season-opening L.B. Smith Ford Blue Jay Classic tournament in November. The Blue Jays improved to 4-3 overall with the non-conference win, while King’s dropped to 2-5.

Elizabethtown carried a 34-18 lead into halftime after taking control of the game mid-way through the first half. With 12:47 left in the first half, King’s held an 11-10 lead, and Etown out-scored King’s 24-7 for the remainder of the half. King’s pulled to within ten points of Etown with 12:55 left in the game as the Blue Jays led 45-35, but the host Monarchs got no closer than that margin for the rest of the game.

The Blue Jays hit 30 out of 57 attempts from the field, while King’s shot just 22 for 62 from the field.

Brad Schreiber led Etown in scoring with 17 points, and Brian Schreiber scored 13 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Blue Jays. Greg Adams and Chad Piersol each added eight points for Etown, with Adams tossing out four assists and Piersol shooting 4-for-8 from the field. Justin Shade also scored eight points for the Blue Jays. Greg Brizek scored six points and had a team-high total of six assists for Etown.

Vince Scalzo led King’s in scoring with 15 points, and he and John Soboleski each led the Monarchs in rebounds with nine. Soboleski added 14 points.

Elizabethtown will return to action Thursday, December 8 when it hosts local NCAA Division II opponent Millersville University in a 7:00 p.m. game.
