Misericordia 84, Gwynedd-Mercy 76

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA — Down by as much as 22 points midway in the second half, Gwynedd-Mercy staged a late rally to get within six points but could not get the game-tying field goal as Misericordia won their first game of the season, holding off the Griffins, 84-76, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game Monday evening at the Griffin Complex.

The Cougars (1-7, 1-2 PAC) raced out early, taking a 16-6 lead. Ryan Roa's trey gave CM a 25-10 cushion in the first half and led 33-22 at halftime. Gwynedd struggled from the floor in the first stanza, hitting just 25% (10-of-40) and 13.3% (2-of-15) from beyond the arc.

The second half saw Misericordia increase their lead to as much as 20 points before the Griffins (1-6, 0-2 PAC) started to creep back into the contest. Back-to-back three-pointers from junior Chris DelBrocco got it within71-59 with 4:02 on the clock.

The longball barrage continued with another trey from DelBrocco and junior Rashid Santiago put Gwynedd within six (79-73) with 34 seconds left. But the Cougars hit five out of their next six trips to the free-throws line to seal the win.

DelBrocco led the Griffins with 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Santiago added 13 as well as junior Tom Keenan.

Corey Brown and Ryan Roa led CM with 16 points apiece respectively. Brown added 11 boards for a double-double. Tony Rezykowski chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
