Grove City 63, Juniata 60

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Sophomore guard Shawn Carr fired in a career-high 25 points, including four three-point goals, Monday night as the Grove City College men's basketball team slipped past visiting Juniata, 63-60, at the Grove City College Arena.

The win is Grove City's second straight after an 0-3 start. Juniata falls to 5-3.

Grove City fell behind 16-5 in the first half but rallied to take a 32-26 lead by halftime. The Wolverines took the lead for good with a 17-0 run. Three-point plays by Carr and senior guard Matt Phillips help spark the run while sophomore guard Ryan Gerber capped the run with a three-point goal.

The Wolverines extended the lead to 14 on three different occasions in the second half. Juniata closed the gap to 53-51 with seven minutes left but Grove City sophomore Joe Capotosta drained a three from the left wing. The Eagles pulled to within two, 62-60, with 54 seconds left but Grove City held on.

Grove City shot 19 of 39 (49 percent) from the floor for the game. The Wolverines were 9-for-16 (56 percent) behind the three-point line. Grove City held a 29-23 edge on the glass. Freshman Daniel Zacour grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Travis Boyd led Juniata with 12 points.

Grove City will host Geneva Thursday night at 7 p.m.
