Clarkson 72, Cazenovia 67

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Cazenovia College Wildcats men’s basketball team was defeated by the Clarkson University Golden Knights 67-72 on Sun., Dec. 4, at the Cazenovia College Athletics Center. The Golden Knights, who trailed Cazenovia by as many as 11 points in the first half, fought back and controlled the second half, hitting critical free-throws down the stretch, to seal the 5-point victory. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-4 on the year. The Golden Knights improve to 2-4 with the victory.

EJ Harrison led the way for Clarkson. Harrison scored a game-high 22 points by going 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and 7-for-14 from the field.

Cazenovia’s freshman guard, Stephen Harris (’09, Watervliet / Watervliet HS), continued his strong first-year campaign. Harris went 3-for-7 from the three-point arc and finished the game with a team-high 20 points. Harris, who was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the line, now leads the team with 73 points this season.

Sedric Hawkins (’06, Syracuse / Henninger HS) finished the game with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Wildcats. Joshua Winans (’07, Afton / Afton HS) finished with a team-high six assists for Cazenovia.

Cazenovia shot just 13-for-22 from the free-throw line in the game. The Wildcats are shooting 48 percent from the charity stripe this season as a team.

The Wildcats are next in action on Tues., Dec. 6, against the D’Youville College Spartans in the first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season for both teams. Game time is slated for 8:00 PM in Buffalo, N.Y. The Wildcats are back home, in Cazenovia, N.Y. on Thurs., Dec. 8, for a mid-week non-conference game against the Utica College Pioneers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Cazenovia College Athletics Center.
