St. Mary's answered with a 21-3 run to open up their largest lead of the contest at 25-13 with 9:56 remaining in the first half. The Eagles opened up a five-point lead to begin the second half after a made three-pointer from sophomore guard Mike Lee. The Seahawks would not be able to hold any lead in the second half and could manage just two ties, the last coming at the 13:54 mark after a made three-pointer from Sophomore guard T.J. Jordan.
After narrowing a Mary Washington nine point lead down to four points, the Seahawks further reduced the deficit when sophomore guard Tyson Lesesne nailed a three-pointer with three seconds remaining to make it an 83-82 UMW lead. After a Lesesne foul, junior guard A.J. Fitzgerald sank one of two free throws for an 84-82 advantage.
The Seahawks had one last chance to tie or take the lead, but Jordan had the ball deflected off of his right leg and out of bounds with just 0.3 seconds remaining giving Mary Washington the victory.
Sophomore guard Justin Baker posted game-highs for the Eagles with his 25 points and ten rebounds. He also contributed with seven assists. Sophomore forward Jon Pierce added 16 points with Lee scoring 14 and Fitzgerald tallying 13 points and eight assists.
