Baldwin-Wallace 102, Otterbein 77

WESTERVILLE, OHIO — BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s basketball team defeated Otterbein College, 102-77, tonight (Dec. 3) at the Rike Center in Westerville in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for each team.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. With its loss, Otterbein falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

In the first half, the game would feature 11 lead changes. B-W led by as many as 10 points on a layup by junior preseason All-American Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door) with :42 seconds left. The Yellow Jackets ended the half on 16-7 run to take a 41-33 lead heading into the break. Davis would lead all scorers with 15 in the first half.

In the second half, B-W increased its lead to 20 points thanks to a jumper by junior post player Chad Clark (Fremont/Ross) with 15:49 left to make the score 56-36. The Yellow Jackets would lead by as many as 34 points at 97-63 with a three-point play by senior post Dan Gundert (Wellington) with 4:29 left in the game en route to the 102-77 victory. As a team, B-W shot 54.8 percent (40-of-73) from the floor while Otterbein shot just 35.6 percent (26-of-73) including shooting 22.7 percent (five-of-22) from behind the arc.

Leading the way for B-W offensively was Davis with a game-high 24 points. He also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) continued his hot shooting this season, scoring 22 points and shooting a perfect eight-of-eight from the floor including four-of-four from three-point range. Clark also scored in double figures with 14 and Gundert added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

For Otterbein, sophomore point guard Ross Banaszak scored a team-high 19 points. Senior forward Kevin King scored 15 points and senior center Tyler Ousley added 10. King also grabbed 10 rebounds.

B-W will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when it hosts OAC rival Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m. in Berea.
