Mount Saint Vincent 109, Centenary 75

RIVERDALE, NY — Senior Charles Hernandez (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) notched his second consecutive triple-double, and fellow seniors James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) and Greg Casey (Mount Vernon, NY/Blessed Sacrament) combined for 52 points as the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team won its second consecutive game, 109-75 over Centenary College in its Skyline Conference opener at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 3-2 and broke the 100-point mark for the second time this season.

Hernandez was simply fantastic, scoring 11 points, and adding a season-high 14 assists and 10 rebounds. The performance came after a 19-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance during Wednesday’s 91-71 win over Lehman College. The triple-doubles were the first of his collegiate career. Also for the Mount, Mooney scored more than 25 points for the fourth time in five games this season after a 28-point performance, and he added four rebounds and three assists. Casey also had another fine game with 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Mount Saint Vincent shot an incredible 57% from the floor and outrebounded the Cyclones, 48-35. Six Dolphins scored in double figures as freshmen Tim Blosi (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Charlie Britz (Armonk, NY/Byram Hills HS), and sophomore Derrick Charlton(Yonkers, NY/St. Raymonds) each scored career-highs with Blosi scoring 12 points, while Charlton and Britz each had 10.

For Centenary (2-3, 0-1 Skyline Conference), freshman Alex Kuchar (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford HS) had a team-high 24 points as four Cyclones scored in double figures. Centenary struggled to shoot throughout the game as they shot 38% from the floor, including a 10 for 38 performance from behind the three-point line. The Cyclones also turned the ball over 27 times while forcing only 22 turnovers.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, Dec. 5 when they host Westfield State (Massachusetts) for a 7:00 p.m. home game.
