Emmanuel led by as many as 11 points (22-11) in the first half following a Spellman layup at the 12:12 mark. The Saints took a 33-27 into the locker room and built a 28-point cushion (89-61) on a basket by sophomore Brian Lindsey (New Orleans, La./Warren Easton) with 3:25 remaining in regulation. Mount Ida finished the game with a 12-3 run, but it was not enough, as the visitors held on for their second victory of the season.
The Saints shot 43.7% (31-71) for the game, including 41.2% (7-17) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Mustangs 52-45 and totaled 11 blocked shots en route to the win. Mount Ida was limited to just 32.9% (25-78) shooting from the floor, as it dropped its second-straight contest.
Lindsey joined Spellman with a double-double on ten points and ten boards, while sophomore Levi Smith (Tulsa, Okla./Bushop Kelley) and freshman Rob Williams-Hinton (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Academy) tallied 10 and 15 points respectively for the Saints. Smith added six rebounds and a game-high six blocks, and Williams-Hinton finished with game-highs of five assists and five steals.
Freshman Andy McCoo (Pennacook, N.H./Merrimack Valley) sparked the Mustangs with squad-bests of 15 points and four assists. Mount Ida also received solid production from Matt McGaughran (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy), who finished with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-5 from deep. The senior captain added four assists and three rebounds. Sophomore Mike Dunham (Salem, N.H./Salem) drained three trifectas for nine points, and junior Doug Williams (Ellicot City, Md./St. Mary’s) chipped in with eight points and six boards off the bench. Freshman Otis Thompson (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) corralled a club-high eight rebounds to round things out for the hosts.
Mount Ida (1-6, 0-1 NAC) returns to the court on Tuesday, when it visits the Massachusetts Institute Technology for a non-conference tilt tipping off at 7:00 p.m. Emmanuel (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) will also be in action on Tuesday, as it plays its second of five-straight road games at Wesleyan University at 8:00 p.m.
