Trailing 77-76 with 14 seconds left in the game, McDaniel took nine seconds to foul Nick Shattuck. He missed the front end of a one-and-one. The rebound fell into the hands of Joe Hunter. Hunter pushed it up the floor to Dipiero, who took several strides over the mid-court line before launching the game-winning trey to wrap up his 23-point effort.
McDaniel sunk 11 of its 22 three pointers in the contest with Dipiero hitting on five of six treys. Hunter finished the game with 12 points, all of which came from behind the line.
Ursinus led by seven points twice in the first half. That was the biggest point differential in the game. The scoreboard was even 17 times during the contest and saw the lead change 18 times.
McDaniel out-rebounded its guests 42-37. 19 of the Terror’s rebounds came on offense resulting in 29-second chance points. Ursinus turned the ball over 18 times compared to McDaniel’s 13. The Terror capitalized on the free possessions outscoring the Bears 20-8 on turnovers. Dipiero recorded five steals in the game.
Ursinus’ Mike McGarvey scored a game-high 24 points. McDaniel’s Jemar Daniel and Ursinus’ Matt Fabian each pulled down nine rebounds. Daniel also recorded a career high five blocks. Josh McKay scored 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds for the Terror.
The win marks McDaniel’s second win in the last four meetings between the teams. McDaniel is 2-8 against Ursinus in their previous ten clashes. McDaniel is .500 after six games for the first time in four seasons.
With the win, McDaniel improves to 3-3, 1-1, while Ursinus drops to 3-2, 1-1. McDaniel returns to action on Tuesday at Johns Hopkins.
