Judson (Ill.) 75, Northwestern (Minn.) 63

EGLIN, Ill. — The Northwestern College men’s basketball team saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, losing to Judson College on account of a 75-63 final score in the championship game of the Judson College Tournament. One day earlier, Northwestern routed Principia College 88-57 in the semi-final round of the two-day event. The Eagles are now 6-1 on the year as their 6-0 start represents the best start in program history.

In the tournament’s championship showdown with host Judson College, the first half featured an even battle with 4 lead changes and 1 tie. No team led by more than 9 points in the first twenty minutes of play as the scoreboard read 32-to-32 when the teams headed to the locker room at the break. The second half witnessed Judson College slowly pull away, building as much as a 15-point lead at 62-47 with 7:42 remaining in the contest. The Eagles were unable to mount a late comeback in falling for the first time this season in a 75-63 final score. Northwestern netted 23-of-52 (44.2%) field goal attempts, but just 3-of-17 (17.6%) from behind the arc. Joseph Sir owned a team-high 18 points, connecting on 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Josh Strelecki (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park HS) and Andrew Cramer joined Sir in double-figures scoring with 17 and 10 points respectively. Cramer also grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss.

Joseph Sir and Andrew Cramer were named Judson College All-Tournament Team selections for Northwestern. The Eagles will return to the Ericksen Center and face Crossroads College on Thursday, December 8th, at 7:30 p.m.
