Johns Hopkins 69, Muhlenberg 56

BALTIMORE — BALTIMORE - A 58.7 percent shooting performance propelled Johns Hopkins (4-2, 2-0 Centennial) to a 69-56 win over Muhlenberg (4-2, 0-2) in Centennial Conference Men's Basketball action on Saturday at Goldfarb Gym.

For the game, Hopkins made 27-of-46 field goal attempts, the second-best total this season for the Blue Jays.

In the first half, the Blue Jays knocked down 68 percent (17-25) of their tries and 4-of-8 attempts from behind the three-point arc. Junior Danny Nawrocki and senior Jeff Thompson led the way for Hopkins in the first, scoring 12 and nine points, respectively. Thompson had seven of the Blue Jays' first 14 points.

The Hopkins lead swelled to as much as 20, as the Blue Jays pulled ahead 53-33 less than eight minutes into the second half. The final 10 minutes of the second half were marked by a scoring drought of over four minutes, which the Mules broke with a pair of buckets to narrow the margin to 12, at 55-43 with 5:39 remaining. Muhlenberg would get no closer the rest of the afternoon.

Nawrocki highlighted four Blue Jays with 10 or more points, making 9-of-13 shots from the floor, totalling 18 on the day. Nawrocki also pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds, posting his second double-double of the season.

Thompson finished with a career-high 11, hitting on 4-of-5 attempts from the field. His previous best was 10 on Feb. 22, 2005 against Franklin & Marshall.

Juniors Matt Griffin and T.J. Valerio also got into double-figures, with 12 and 13 points, respectively.

Leading the way for the Mules was junior Jeff Stewart, who poured in a game-high 25 points in 31 minutes. Stewart needed 36 coming into today's game to reach 1,000 for his career.

Muhlenberg was limited to just 37.9 percent (22-58) shooting, including 5-of-21 from behind the three-point arc.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to entertain the Green Terror of McDaniel. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
