John Carroll 82, Wilmington 67

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Oh — Senior forward Kyle Roggenburk scored a career-high 31 points to lead the John Carroll men’s basketball team to an 82-67 victory over the Quakers of Wilmington College in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
The Blue Streaks held the lead for a majority of the first half, with the only Quakers advantage occurring early in the game (4-2 at 18:13). JCU shot 16-31 (.516) from the field compared to Wilmington’s 12-25 (.480) effort in the first 20 minutes.

Owning a 39-29 lead at the half, John Carroll looked to maintain their advantage. While never letting its lead slip below double digits, JCU was able to push the margin to 20 points – achieved on a Demetrius Travis lay-up with 5:16 left on the clock.

Wilmington closed to within 11 points on two occasions, but could get no closer.

Roggenburk, who shot 13-15 from the field to collect most of his career-high 31 points, also had a game-high 10 rebounds for John Carroll (4-1, 1-0 OAC). Junior Pete Moran and sophomore John Curran followed with 17 and 15 points, respectively, as the Blue Streaks finished the game 28-54 (.519) from the field and forced 24 turnovers.

Wilmington (4-1, 0-1 OAC), in dropping its first game of the year, was led by a trio of players -- Nick Berter, Eric Sterling and Fred Harrison -- who all had 13 points
