Guilford 79, Lynchburg 64

GREENSBORO, NC — Sophomore center Ben Strong (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) scored 17 of his career- and game-high 26 points in the second half in Guilford's 79-64 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over visiting Lynchburg Saturday. The contest marked Guilford's home opener and raised its overall record to 4-1 (2-0 ODAC). Lynchburg, playing its second game in less than 24 hours, drops to 0-8 (0-2 ODAC).

Strong, who made seven of eight second-half shots, scored on three straight Guilford possessions early in the second period to expand the Quakers' 28-24 halftime lead to 41-32 with 15:07 left. The nine-point deficit was the Hornets' smallest for the rest of the game as Guilford made nearly 60 percent of its second-half field goals. Quakers' sophomore guard Ray Edmond (Winston-Salem, NC/North Forsyth) scored nine of his 11 points off the bench in the second half.

Senior Patrick Prior (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) totalled 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Lynchburg, which lost at Division I Liberty Friday night, 84-50. Junior center Peter Vasiliou (Chincoteague, VA/Chincoteague) added 11 points and senior guard Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) chipped in 10 points and two steals. Lynchburg's leading scorer, junior guard Pete Manos, Jr. (Miami, FL/Avon Old Farms (CT)), scored eight points on three-of-15 shooting from the floor.

Guilford sophomore point guard Caleb Kimbrough (Carrboro, NC/Chapel Hill) contributed 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman forward George Neville (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) shared team-high rebounding honors with seven. Guilford enjoyed a 51-34 edge in rebounds and converted 17 offensive boards in to 19 points.

The Quakers visit Division I Elon Monday (12/5) at 7:00 p.m. before resuming ODAC play at Washington and Lee Wednesday (12/7) at 7:00 p.m. Lynchburg ends a three-game road trip Wednesday (12/7) at league-foe Hampden-Sydney at 7:00 p.m.
