Coast Guard 97, Kings Point 76

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Jeff Prebeck scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Craig Johnson added a career-high 28 points as Coast Guard scored 29 straight points in the first half enroute to a 97-76 win over rival Kings Point in a non-conference game as Coast Guard head coach Pete Barry picked up his 350th career win.
Kings Point (2-2) got off to a quick start and led 19-6 with 12:41 left in the first half before the Bears scored 29 straight points over a stretch of almost nine minutes to take control of the game, leading 35-19 lead with 3:45 left in the first half. Coast Guard led 42-24 at the break.
Coast Guard (4-1), which won its fourth straight, did not allow Kings Point to get back in the game as the Bears shot 69.7 percent from the floor (23-33) in the second half as Prebeck and Johnson combined for 38 second half points.
Barry in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach, now has a career-record of 350-273 overall with a mark of 199-174 in his 16th season at the Coast Guard Academy.
Al Sowers had 19 points and six assists while Grant Johnson led the Bears with seven assists to go with his eight points.
Alex Loepker led Kings Point with 18 points while Zach Wyatte had 15 points and nine rebounds for Kings Point. Paul Tricarico (12) and Brian Kelly (11) were also in double figures for the Mariners.
Coast Guard snapped a two-game losing streak in the series against Kings Point with the victory.
