GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Carthage College women’s basketball team (2-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to No. 11 Hope College (4-2), 71-42, on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the second-annual CCIW/MIAA Classic at the Calvin College Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Lady Reds lost to No. 42 Calvin College (4-1), 59-43, on Friday, Dec. 2. CCIW-member and No. 7 Wheaton College (Ill., 5-0) defeated Hope (3-2), 47-40, in the other game on Friday. On Saturday, Dec. 3, Wheaton (Ill.) plays Calvin at 3 p.m., EST.

In the Hope game, Carthage led by six points, 22-16, at 8:10 first period before falling behind seven points at halftime, 34-27. The Flying Dutch opened the second period with a 13-2 run to take an 18-point lead, 47-29, at 10:18. Hope went another run, this time 20-5, at the 8:42 mark to go up by 29 points, 71-42 at 1:22. The Flying Dutch out-scored the Lady Reds, 37-15, in the second half. Hope shot 34 percent (22-65), while Carthage shot just 28 percent (14-51). Shana Lieberman led the Lady Reds with 16 points and eight assists, while Carlie Janowiak added 11 points. Bria Ebels topped the Flying Dutch with 16 points and six rebounds.
