Washington U. 67, University of Dallas 43

St. Louis, Mo. — The Washington University men's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the 22nd Annual Lopata Classic with a 67-43 win over University of Dallas on Friday night at the WU Field House. The Bears advance to the championship game against Wisconsin Lutheran College, who posted an 84-77 win over Swarthmore College in the opening game.

The game opened with a quick three-pointer by Dallas' Corey Loverson, but Washington University responded with an 8-2 run sparked by back to back three-point plays by freshman Tyler Nading. However, the Bears defense took over from there. The defense forced 18 first-half turnovers and held the Crusaders scoreless for a 9:35 span midway through the first half.

Led by eight points and five steals by Troy Ruths, the Red and Green went on a 13-0 run to push their lead to 21-8, and led 29-17 at halftime. Nading added 10 points and six boards in the opening frame.

The second half began with similar results. Senior Mike Grunst blocked four shots in the first five minutes and Ruths got his sixth steal and ended the breakaway dunking over a Dallas player to cap a WU 9-3 run.

Ruths ended the game with 18 points and tied a school-record with seven steals. He became the fifth Bear to accomplish the feats. Senior Scott Stone hit a three-pointer midway through the first half, moving him into sixth place on all-time list with 143 treys. His three-pointer also marked the 200 th consecutive game that the Red and Green have connected from downtown. Nading finished the game with 15 points and eight boards.

Sophomore Danny O'Boyle came off the bench to tie his career-high with 10 points on 2-for-3 shooting from three-point range.
