Hope 93, Wheaton (Ill.) 67

HOLLAND, Mich. — The Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team kept it close for the first 15 minutes, before Hope College pulled away for a 93-67 victory at home tonight in the CCIW/MIAA Challenge. The Thunder fall to 2-2 overall and the Flying Dutch are now 5-0. Saturday at 1 PM (EST), Wheaton will face Calvin College in the finale of the CCIW/MIAA Challenge, hosted by Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The game will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.

Senior guard Tony Bollier made two free throws with 5:17 remaining in the first half to pull the Thunder within one point at 26-25. Hope finished the half on a 17-5 run, though, and led 43-30 at the half. Hope led by as much as 30 points in the second half as the Flying Dutch continued their undefeated season.

Senior Jordan Kemper recorded a "double-double" with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He was 4-for-5 from the line and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Junior Johnnie Standard led Wheaton with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Sophomore John Mohan and Bollier each added nine points.

Four Flying Dutchman scored in double-figures. Marcus Vanderheide led all scorers with 18 points. Jeff Carlson added 12 points, and Stephen Cramer and Jesse Reimink both scored 10 points.

Wheaton was 26-for-50 from the floor for 52%, 4-for-9 from three-point range and 11-for-15 from the line. Hope made 36-of-67 shots from the floor, made 11-of-26 three pointers and 10-of-18 free throw attempts. Wheaton out rebounded Hope 35-27, but turned the ball over 26 times, to just 11 for Hope. Those turnovers led to 32 points for Hope.
